Remember this?

“And we want to bring our prices down to what other countries are paying, or at least close, and let the other countries pay more.” –Donald Trump, October 2017

Here’s the reality.  Big Pharma–seven of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies–just hauled in $12.1 billion in profit in the first quarter.  That’s a 29% increase over the same period a year ago.

Those are monster numbers.  From Axios:

  • Drug makers have not been shy about raising list prices on previously approved medications, despite President Trump’s rhetoric about going after the industry.
Trump was scheduled to speak about drug prices today, but the White House said that speech has been postponed.
Americans pay anywhere from two to six times more than the rest of the world for brand-name prescription drugs, according to the International Federation of Health Plans.
