Donald Trump is using his official Twitter account to call for the boycott of Goodyear Tires. This came after this report from Topeka, Kansas television station WIBW-TV that employees weren’t allowed to wear “MAGA Attire.”

According to the employee who took the photo of the slide, it was presented at the Topeka plant by an area manager and says the slide came from their corporate office out of Akron, Ohio.

“If someone wants to wear a BLM shirt in here, then cool. I’m not going to get offended about it. But at the same time, if someone’s not going to be able to wear something that is politically based, even in the farthest stretch of the imagination, that’s discriminatory,” said the employee under the agreement of anonymity due to fears they could lose their job. “If we’re talking about equality, then it needs to be equality. If not, it’s discrimination.”

Politico writes:

In a statement following Trump’s tweet, Goodyear denied that the slide was created or distributed by their corporate office and claimed it was not part of a diversity training class.

The company did not indicate the image was doctored and stood by the ban on political messaging articulated in the slide.

They also released this statement.

While Trump supporters are predictably running with the boycott, others point out that this wasn’t the smartest move by Trump so close to an election. Also, it’s been noted that the official White House limousines run on Goodyear tires.
