Donald Trump promised the attendees at his campaign kickoff in Orlando it would be “a very exciting evening,” but many say he didn’t exactly deliver. A big theme for analysts, it felt like Donald Trump was running not in the present day, but rather three years ago. Strangely enough one of the quotes that could be very telling came from a big Trump supporter himself. New York Magazine’s Olivia Nuzzi writes that she was standing next to Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) during the rally and at one point he told her, “If he loses, people will definitely point to this moment as the turning point, not Charlottesville.”  Here’s why that statement could prove to be true:

CNN analyst Stephen Collinson said: “Swimming in nostalgia, Trump played all the old hits. He bashed Hillary Clinton, jabbed the “fake news,” invoked fear over immigrants and marveled at the glory over his shock election win. He partied like it was 2016.”

Vox wrote:Trump’s 2020 kickoff made it seem as though he’s still running against Hillary Clinton… recycled all his old hits from 2016.

MSNBC’s Morning Joe team says it all just sounded “a little dated.”

Trump also claimed that in his second term cancer will be cured and aids eradicated.

“We will come up with the cures to many, many problems, to many, many diseases, including cancer and others. And we’re getting closer all the time,” he added. “We will eradicate AIDS in America once and for all and we’re very close.”
