An El Paso man whose wife was killed in the Walmart massacre early this month has invited anyone wishing to attend her funeral to do so.

Antonio Basco has no other family and was left alone by the death of Margie Reckard, his wife of 22 years.

His desire to have as many people as possible at her funeral on Friday was revealed in a Facebook Post by the Perches Funeral Home:

“Mr. Antonio Basco was Married for 22yrs to his wife Margie Reckard, He had no other family. He welcomes anyone to attend his Wife’s services,” the funeral home wrote. “Let’s show him & his wife some El Paso Love.”

Basco’s invitation is likely to draw a substantial crowd. The Facebook has been shared thousands of times, and drawn hundreds of thousands of sympathetic comments.

Reckard, 63, was among the 22 people killed in the shooting Aug. 3, which is being investigated as an apparent hate crime and domestic terrorism.

Shortly after the attack, Basco told the Associated Press that “Margie, more or less, was the brains of the family.”

“I mean you didn’t even have to be there to talk to her,” Basco added. “You could just look at how she was, how she acted, how she presented herself. She was an awesome lady.”

“We were gonna live together and die together,” he said. “That was our plan.”
