Facebook and its popular subsidiaries, Instagram and WhatsApp, all suffered major outages on Wednesday morning that continued well into the day. In particular, users were unable to post photos.

By mid-evening, the problem appeared to have been fixed.

Earlier, on Twitter, which was not affected, Facebook posted this:

“We’re aware that some people are having trouble uploading or sending images, videos and other files on our apps. We’re sorry for the trouble and are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”

There’s been no word so far on what caused the outages, but they do not appear to be connected with Tuesday’s Cloudflare crash, which caused troubles across the worldwide Internet, nor the result of a deliberate cyber-attack.
