We found this clip from CNN that aired on Saturday, February 29, 2020, exactly five months ago. It was the day that the first death from coronavirus was recorded in the United States. Vice President Mike Pence had just been appointed to lead the White House coronavirus task force.

Pence appeared on CNN with Jake Tapper and while many of the VP’s statements don’t hold up under the test of time, there is one gut-wrenching moment where Pence makes an assurance to Tapper:

We’re ready. We’re ready. This is an all-hands-on-deck effort.” VP Mike Pence, Feb. 29, 2020

Here we are exactly five months later and it’s safe to say the Trump administration wasn’t ready. Many would argue they’re still not. Five months after the first death, the United States recorded number 150,000. For anyone who would question whether the administration’s strategy has been effective, please watch the above.
