The former lead prosecutor in the probe of the Jan. 6 Insurrection is facing an investigation of his own after giving an interview to “60 Minutes.”

Michael Sherwin, former acting U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C., may have violated DOJ protocols by talking with the CBS News magazine last Sunday, according to an official in the U.S. Attorneys office in D.C.

The District Judge overseeing the case wasn’t happy about the interview, either. Judge Amit Mehta gave the Justice Department and defense attorneys for 10 defendants in the Oath Keepers conspiracy case a stern warning to not talk to the media.

The referral of Sherwin’s interview for internal review is a clear sign new Attorney General Merrick Garland is out to button down the Justice Department and to avoid making unnecessary headlines.

Until last week, Sherwin was the interim lead prosecutor in the case that has filed charges against more than 400 people related to the Capitol riots.
