Jeffrey Toobin: Trump Is “The Great Reputation Killer”

Welcome

WASHINGTON, DC - MARCH 20: President Donald Trump (R) listens as Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen delivers remarks during a law enforcement roundtable on sanctuary cities, in the Roosevelt Room at the White House on March 20, 2018 in Washington, D.C. Kirstjen Nielsen is the latest in a line of Trump cabinet officials to leave their positions under less than ideal circumstances. Titans of their industries have come to work for Donald Trump, but when they leave you don’t remember them for their success pre-Trump. Instead, you remember them for what they did or didn’t do during their time at the White House. Or you remember them for the derogatory ways Trump dressed them down. Rex Tillerson was referred “dumb as a rock” and “lazy” by Trump. You think anyone said that when he was the CEO of Exxon?

In Nielsen’s she seemed to try hard to please her boss. Vox writes that she “has arguably been the most aggressive secretary in the department’s short history in cracking down on immigration.” But “none of it appears to have been enough for Trump.”
