Donald Trump wrote a six-page letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi saying: I write this letter to you for the purpose of history and to put my thoughts on a permanent and indelible record. The letter comes on the eve of a vote in the full House on two articles of impeachment charging the president with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Politico writes:

But the broader intent of the letter to the speaker — which appeared to represent little more than a messaging document, rehashing the same grievances Trump has frequently aired mixed with legal defense — was not immediately clear.
