The radical right-wing Proud Boys and a dozen other extremist groups were placed on Canada’s offcial list of terrorist organizations on Wednesday.

In announcing the move, the government agency Public Safety Canada described the Proud Boys as “a neo-fascist organization that engages in political violence,NPR reports.

The declaration says the Proud Boys “espouse misogynistic, Islamophobic, anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, and/or white supremacist ideologies and associate with white supremacist groups.

The Proud Boys, formed in Canada in 2016, played a prominent role in the riot that engulfed the U.S. Capitol in January, leaving five people dead.

“Designation as a terrorist group carries financial and legal consequences” in Canada, reports the Washington Post. “Police can seize the property of the group or its members; banks can seize their assets … [and it’s] a crime to knowingly provide assistance to a designated group to facilitate or carry out attacks.”

The most prominent names on the Canadian list, which now numbers 73 organizations, have previously been international terrorist groups like the Islamic State, Al-Qaida and al-Shabab.
