We’ll take a dose of optimism, especially if it’s from Dr. Scott Gottlieb, a former FDA Commissioner who’s been a pretty straight shooter during the pandemic. He told CBS News ”Face the Nation” that mitigation hadn’t worked as well as he anticipated, but he also said:

“Vaccines may be available by the fall in doses sufficient to ring-fence infections in cities, while we continue to study them to make sure they’re safe and effective for mass inoculation … I think we’re gonna be in a position to do that.” Dr. Scott Gottlieb to CBS News
