The House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection has turned its focus to criminal conspiracy and the question of did Donald Trump coordinate and oversee an illegal effort to stop Joe Biden’s certification. The Guardian reports:
The committee’s new focus on the potential for a conspiracy marks an aggressive escalation in its inquiry as it confronts evidence that suggests the former president potentially engaged in criminal conduct egregious enough to warrant a referral to the justice department.

New evidence turned over by former chief of staff Mark Meadows suggests “the White House coordinated efforts to stop Biden’s certification,” sources told The Guardian. Some of the messages from Meadows and others have led the committee to believe the White House briefed members of Congress on a plan to stop certification. Also was there coordination within the White House with outside extremist groups that stormed the Capitol?
Coordination could mean conspiracy, which if referred to the Justice Department for prosecution, could be a significant charge.
That would probably be the most serious charge for which the select committee might consider a referral, as it considers a range of other criminal conduct that has emerged in recent weeks from obstruction to potential wire fraud by the GOP.
