In Washington, everything is about politics, getting the political edge, making the most political points. Donald Trump has tried to score points with his political base by hinting that he was unhappy with the Attorney General because he couldn’t find evidence of massive voter fraud. Trump, said to be in a “rage,” has “lost confidence” in Barr.

Would Barr be fired? Perhaps, but before Trump could drop the axe comes a leak from the Barr camp that basically says, “You can’t fire me because I‘ll quit.”

The New York Times reports Barr’s possible departure has nothing to do with current events and the Attorney General has been thinking about this for some time. Barr could leave before the end of the year.

One of the people insisted that Mr. Barr had been weighing his departure since before last week and that Mr. Trump had not affected the attorney general’s thinking. Another said Mr. Barr had concluded that he had completed the work that he set out to accomplish at the Justice Department.
