President Trump is backing away from his threat of an executive order to add the citizenship question to the 2020 census. According to CNN Trump “is expected to issue an executive action Thursday directing the Commerce Department to obtain citizenship data through means other than the US census, according to two people with knowledge of the plan.

ABC News reports:

As recently as Thursday morning, administration officials had been repeatedly suggested the president would take executive action calling for the question be added to the census. It was not immediately clear when and why the final decision was made not to move forward with that plan.

The Supreme Court blocked the question from being added to the census last month. Trump was reportedly about to issue an executive order that would try to circumvent the Justice’s order.

This is a developing story that will be updated.
