Univision Anchor Detained In Venezuela

Univision journalist Jorge Ramos was detained in Caracas tonight along with his crew shortly after taping an interview with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Apparently Maduro didn’t like the questions. They were released but the government kept their equipment and cell phones.

Just In: Univision says in a tweet that journalist Jorge Ramos and his team are “being arbitrarily detained at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas.“ They were interviewing President Nicolas Maduro “but he didn’t like their questions.”

UPDATE: Univision executive tweets that he has spoken with journalist Jorge Ramos, and Ramos and his team have been released after being detained during an interview with Venezuelan President Maduro, but their equipment and interview material were confiscated.

This isn’t the first time Ramos has been scolded by a politician for trying to ask a tough question. Back in 2015, Donald Trump threw Ramos out of a campaign event telling him to “Go back to Univision.” At the time Ramos told CNN:

“I knew it was going to be tough… I knew… he wasn’t going to like it. But I never expected that instead of answering my questions, he was going to call his security detail to throw me out.”
