During an emotional speech, British Prime Minister Theresa May announced she is resigning. She remarked, “I will shortly leave the job that it has been the honour of my life to hold.” The Guardian writes:
May’s announcement came after a meeting with Graham Brady, the chair of the backbench Tory 1922 Committee, which was prepared to trigger a second vote of no confidence in her leadership if she refused to resign.
Her fate was sealed after a 10-point “new Brexit deal”, announced in a speech on Tuesday, infuriated Tory backbenchers and many of her own cabinet – while falling flat with the Labour MPs it was meant to persuade.
The leader of the House of Commons, Andrea Leadsom, resigned on Wednesday, rather than present the Brexit bill to parliament.
Theresa May is right to resign. She's now accepted what the country's known for months: she can't govern, and nor can her divided and disintegrating party.
Whoever becomes the new Tory leader must let the people decide our country’s future, through an immediate General Election.

She will stay in the position, until June 7th, to ensure a smooth transition to a new Conservative leader. She will still be PM when Donald Trump visits in early June.
