Donald Trump Jr. faced an unlikely crowd of protesters at UCLA, the latest stop on his book tour.  The Guardian says:

The appearance backfired when his own supporters, diehard Make America Great Again conservatives, raised their voices most loudly in protest and ended up drowning him out barely 20 minutes into an event scheduled to last two hours.

The audience was angry that Trump Jr and his girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, would not take questions. The loud shouts of “USA! USA!” that greeted Trump when he first appeared on the stage of a university lecture hall to promote his book Triggered: How The Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us quickly morphed into even louder, openly hostile chants of “Q and A! Q and A!”

And when it seemed the president’s son couldn’t sufficiently quiet the crowd down himself, his girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle stepped in to defend him and deliver some low blows to the protesters.

Mother Jones adds:

The couple abruptly left the event after 20 minutes of booing. But the chaos they left behind did more than expose Trump Jr.’s hypocrisy; it laid bare the increasing tensions on the right, particularly between white supremacists and the conservatives eager to distance themselves from them.

The Washington Post reports:

The chaotic scene contradicted Trump Jr.’s central thesis that liberals have grown so intolerant of dissenting voices, conservative politicians can no longer engage in civil discourse. It also exposed an increasingly hostile fissure between conservative student groups like Turning Point USA and a hard-right faction of young Trump devotees who have flocked to self-professed “American Nationalist” Nicholas Fuentes and his “America First” movement.

Fuentes, who marched in Charlottesville, took credit for disrupting the event.  His beef is with Turning Points USA, a group of mainline Trump supporters who Fuentes believes aren’t conservative enough.
