Today James Comey’s interview is being heavily analyzed and perhaps the most significant thing to come out of the conversation was his account of what happened when Donald Trump confronted him about the investigation into Michael Flynn. Comey told George Stephanopoulos:

“He’s asking me to drop the criminal investigation of his now former National Security Advisor… I took it as a direction.”

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin was asked whether this was obstruction of justice. Here’s what he said:

“There’s just no other way to describe what the President was doing if Comey’s account of the conversation is correct, he is trying to stop an investigation of a subordinate in the Russia investigation. And particularly when you combine it with all three meetings that Comey talks about. I think in it and of itself, it is obstruction of justice, it was a crime committed in the White House.”
