With the impeachment inquiry dominating the news, the late-night comics turned their barbs to a story they obviously believed deserved more attention. The New York Times report that Donald Trump reportedly wanted to find inhumane ways to deter immigrants didn’t get as much attention as it may have otherwise gotten. But the Late Night comics did spend time making fun of Trump’s supposed outlandish suggestions. Jimmy Kimmel (watch above) remarked: “He didn’t want alligators, he wanted dragons with fire in their mouths.”

And on the Daily Show, Trevor Noah said:

“Some of you might be hearing these reports and thinking oh, I’m sure the president didn’t really mean all of this stuff. Maybe he was just joking about the ago gators and snakes but it doesn’t seem like that. Like the moat filled with snakes an alligators, apparently it was real enough that his aides actually went out to seek a cost estimate. Yeah, they actually got a quote for the moat. Which also sounds like the name of the most xenophobic Dr. Seuss book ever. You can just imagine being the Trump aides that have to call around to figure out how much it would cost to fill a border moat with snakes and alligators.”

And Seth Meyers joked, “Sometimes, I think Trump got his entire immigration policy from the back of an eighth-grader’s notebook… Seriously, did Trump fall asleep watching “Temple of Doom” again”
