Traditionally, presidents hire experts  to give them opinions they might use, but in the Trump administration, only one opinion matters. At least that’s what National Security Advisor John Bolton inferred when talking to CNN’s Jake Tapper this morning. It came up when Tapper asked Bolton about Donald Trump letting Kim Jong-Un off the hook in the death of Otto Warmbier:

JT: Do you take Kim Jong-Un at his word?

JB: The president takes him at his word.

JT: I know he does, but what about you?

JB: My opinion doesn’t matter….

JT: You’re national security adviser to the president. your opinion matters.

JB: I’m not the national security decisionmaker. That’s his view.
